There is also a very obscure rule that I spotted somewhere - possibly on here - that a US citizen can make a once-only gift of a gun to a UK citizen

May be worth looking into...

A chap at our club has a son living in Canada. He goes over to visit regularly to go hunting. Dad liked a rifle so it was purchased in Canada by the son. Dad had it entered on his licence while he was at home in the UK, checked everything was legal and brought it back with him on his next trip. I know Canada and the US are probably different but it worked for him.
