Hello!

#1 Post by rocket-dog »

Hello all! I am a non-shooter but I have always had an interest in firearms. Considering applying to one of the local clubs after Christmas to do some non-competitive .22 shooting and gallery rifle. If I am lucky enough to be offered chances to have a go at other disciplines like black powder I will have a go. But I can't see me at Bisley with a custom built rifle shooting some custom wildcat round at extreme ranges as I know my limits and like to be realistic in my expectations. Saying that I would like to own at least one centrefire bolt action rifle just for the sake of owning one which I hope doesn't sound too strange. If I can shoot a .22lr out to 100m/yds safely I think I should be able to do the same with a .223 as it isn't that much of a jump. Once more, hello all!

Thanks for the introduction.

Once you get into the joy of firearms who knows what you may end up owning. ;)

My tastes are quite catholic so it is hard to settle on one thing. My father shoots clays but my hand eye co-ordination isn't up to it. I have fondness for revolvers, and though there is a black powder and those long barrelled monsters, the handgun ban sort of killed for a spell any real intent to actually own a gun or two of my own. I think this why I settled on gallery rifle as to my mind lever action rifles in pistol calibres are the closet thing to revolvers we can legally own. Though I respect the Lee-Enfield I have no motivation to own one; drill at cadets probably put me off owning one of my own. Actually I prefer the Ishapore 2A/2A1's which don't seem to be as common here as they are across the Pond. No I will be quite happy with a .22lr bolt action (perhaps a .22lr lever action too), a lever action in .38/357, and perhaps a .223 rifle. Beyond that perhaps some reloading I don't know.

Hi Rocket-Dog and welcome to the forum.

Now, I could be wrong, I do think you are the first member of the forum who has introduced himself and is not even in the process of getting a FAC. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. Any questions you may have please feel free to ask them on this forum, plenty of knowledge on here.

Where abouts are you in the world?

Rocket Dog,

Welcome to the forum, don't put yourself down, even if you are only being modest.

Who knows where you will end up in the shooting world?

Your interests, and tastes will more than likely evolve and change and no-one on this forum would dream of saying 'We told you so'

Would we?

I have been getting a ticket since I turned 16 but always never got around to it. I am one of those who prefers to think (read about) more than do if you get my drift.

I live in somewhere in the north Midlands.........

Thank you. But I am a man of modest means, abilities, and ambitions. Honestly I will be a happy with a nice .22, a lever action rifle, and a few visits to the range a month. Obtaining a FAC is a serious business and such things weigh heavily on me. I would like perhaps one full bore centre fire rifle even if it only gets shot enough to qualify me to keep it. Going to the trouble of having an FAC and not having one proper rifle doesn't seem right or proper! We shall see.

Gosh I do sound serious, but I am not truly. party2

Gun rhymes with fun and shooting is a great pleasure. The only thing which is a joke about shooting are my scores sometimes, otherwise we are all serious about it.

It reminds me of the slogan the Sea Cadets used to use, Serious Fun. I would turn that into Farcically Bad which amused me but not others.
