Any info on .22LR Semi-auto competition formats @ 25m?

#1 Post by majordisorder »

I'm trying to get new semi-auto / rapid fire nights setup for our club as a bit of a change from the usual. Can anyone point me in the direction of practical / tactical COF for 25 meter indoor shooting? I'm looking for something that would keep around 5 - 10 shooters busy for a couple of hours and blow through a lot of ammo.

Are there any "official" disciplines that match the goal?

You could do a variation of the Ruger rimfire challenge

Thinking about it, a variation of IDPA would be huge fun and a challenge. I am sure people would travel for one done well. This has been the fastest growing area of shooting in the US for several years. A lot of fun but takes some effort to put together.

Not relating to the competitions per se but there are some small bore competition targets available at this link:

Go right down to the bottom and you'll find the .22" ones; in particular some 'sniper' competition targets produced by a Czech shooting organisation.

I don't know the details (and this isn't a plug) but I think there's someone doing .22 PR in the Manchester area. There's a link on the North West Custom Parts website. Might be worth dropping them a line to see what their COF is.
The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.

It is fire with movement and not suitable for an indoor 25m alas.

Fire and movement on an indoor range is covered by Minirifle , but the problem is not all ranges are insured for this discipline . This was developed from Practical pistol post 1997 , but as everything the word fun is toned down to sanitise it into a pc sport the same as PSG was in the UK .
Another option which doesnt involve movement was the Practical Precision which was voiced on here a couple of years ago by Dangermouse .
Theres lots of options and its straight forward enough to think up your own ideas but the problem is getting people in volved and willing to lend a hand .

Thanks for the ideas. Based on what's been suggested I've been digging around a couple of sites and found a few interesting targets that I think might be fun.

We've got five lanes at our club, so different targets some shot standing, prone, kneeling should introduce some variety. Coupled with timed shooting it should wake a few people up bangbang . I don't think that any form of movement will be particularly easy in our range but would be fun to try.

With a bit of luck I'll get this setup as a new club night running a few times a month, something to blow away the cobwebs.

Thanks all for the input.
