6.5 would have thought would be a pretty accurate round? depending on the rifle obviously, but even so.

Potenially yes, but with Carcanos the variable bore diameters/condition means a bit of work to get decent bullet/boolit fit. The sights are really hard work too, especially at Joe and myselves age.

Sorry no paper as we were using electronic targets, when we did our bit 4-5 inch groups at 100 yrds was the norm for the better loads. You would need better sights to find the rifles true potential. Open notch sights are hard work at the best of times, that along with the short sight radius of a carbine and our failing eyesight we weren't doing the loads and rifles justice. Such is the nature of shooting old rifles. They were constantly hitting Figure 11s at 300 yards though which is what these rifles and sight were designed to do.

Joe and I had a session yesterday necksizing fired brass for the rifles to take up any excess headspace and help centre the boolit in the throat as there is quiet a jump to the leads.

Dromia, I am guessing that those cast boolits are some of your own or Rogers?

I am curious to understand the science behind the advantages of cast boolits over a jacketed ones especially as modern boolits appear more aerodyamic and efficient or is it just down to cost? I'm going to get some fro Roger and try them out this year.

Dodgyrog makes fine boolit, however the beauty of casting your own is that you can get exactly what you need with total QC, so thats what I do, cast my own.

I have over 100 moulds so my boolit choice is good, Dodgyrog borrows my moulds.

In saying that I am awaiting a shipment fo five more moulds from the states for some new rifles I've acquired.

I have six lube sizers and hundereds of sizing dies so I get the best boolit for the rifle/application as well as total control of my alloy for harness and ductility.

Commercial condom bullet manufacturers cannot give you that choice and bespoke product, consequently condom shooters need to make rifles to fit the bullet.

Seems to me like a case of the tail wagging the dog. :lol:

Dromia and i were at our clubs range day at Catterick today, and as we both had our Carcano's i thought i would take the opportunity of some snaps.

Both are in 6.5X52 calibre, Dromia's being the longer 91/38 Fucile Corto from the Terni Arsenal and mine being the short 91/28 Truppe Speciali, with the gain twist rifling, manufactured at the Gardone Arsenal.






My T.S. has the better quadrant sights but it was a good foot high at 100m, the 91/38 has the fixed battle sight.





Forend and bayonet bar differences.










The 91/38 has a butt trap for the cleaning rod.



Both brass and steel chargers.
