Basic CSR info

As someone new to the sport in general, I know even less about CSR. What I've learned so far is:

* It uses UK legal / section 1 versions of 'military style' rifles. Most commonly AR clones, but other rifles are also involved (L98 A1 etc). Is there a fairly simple description of what's eligible?

* It involves shooting from numerous positions (standing, kneeling, prone), at various distances. How is it scored? Is it timed etc?

* What equipment (both for yourself and your rilfe) is needed? Numerous mags - certain optics etc?

How does it differ from PR?

Join the CSR forum.... As someone who seems genuinely interested you will be welcomed... We aren't as bad as everyone seems to think... :shakeshout:

And do enter and come along to a match. There's always a gun and ammo to be had if you don't have your own.

Seconded. Good bunch of people who are happy to help.

There can be no substitute for getting out there on the firing line with some one-on-one support and enjoying the match. We've all been there at some point and the best knowledge is gained from trying your hand. Well worth it!!

Thanks so where it says under service optic "Fore grips are prohibited, as are any modifications to the fore end" does that mean only 'as-issued' fore-ends are ok - i.e. no quad rails?

Also, I had thought that only .223 / 5.56 rifles were eligible, but the rules mention 9mm bullets. Does that mean guns like the SGC Lever Release are used - would I be at a disadvantage with just a straight pull?

Got to say I've got a real interest in CSR too, I joined the CSR Shooter forum a few months back and have picked up a few useful nuggets of info since hanging around there. I've not been able to make a match yet but will hopefully get myself sorted out over the summer for next winter's series.

My biggest problem is that our club doesn't have facilities to shoot full-bore and as such I can't get an SSC for those disciplines. What's the best route to getting one? Joining the NRA and taking one of their assessments? I also noticed 4 Islands might be a route to getting certified too, but are they a proper HOA club? I'll obviously want to buy a suitable rifle and need a club with the ranges to suit.

You are on the right track. 9mm won't work, the ranges are too far. Baically you can use any calibre but .223 is prob the minimum. AR clones or traditional bolt action rifles. Any scope or irons sights are allowed. It gets a bit more complicated when it comes to bipods etc but you will need a few mags.

Might be worth having a chat with people from the HRA http://www.highpowerrifle.co.uk

Many of the HRA guys shoot CSR / PR, and the HRA is recognised as a Home Office approved club. You will probably need to do the traditional probationary period, but the guys there are all good people and happy to help out.

If you get down to one of the CSR shoots you should be able to get a good idea of how to proceed, and a load of advice. smile2

I am interested in this as well, just been reading up on it a bit. Any idea if there will be any CSR stuff at Bisley for the open day, I am considering heading down for the next one. There are some CSR videos on youtube, might be worth hunting them out.
