GB win the 2013 Australia Match in Barbados
Full-bore.co.uk'ers,
At Paragon Ranges in Barbados on Saturday, GB won the Australia Match by 43 points from Australia, with the West Indies and Canada in 3rd and 4th place respectively. Being by the sea there was a stiff breeze and shooters had to take their time to get the shots away without getting buffeted. The ovreall bracket was something like 5 left to 5 right, with a 7 minute wind change at one point during shooting. Temperatures of 30+ degrees C and 80+ percent humidity made for a hot and sticky shoot, although this was helped somewhat by the wind. A major downpour stopped play for about 30 mins after just over an hour of time had elapsed and, although GB finished just in time to escape getting too well watered, the other teams had to get their final firers through after the downpout had finished.
Results
1st Great Britain 1952.167
2nd Australia 1909.130
3rd West Indies 1791.99
4th Canada 1741.91
Chris Watson of GB, Wales, and Northants, Leics & Rutland had the highest individual score with 199.18 a damn good knock given the conditions.
For those not familiar with the Australia (formerly the Empire) Match, it is shot by teams of 10 shooters plus 2 coaches with 2 sighters and 10 to count at 300, 600, 900 and 1000 yards on ICFRA targets, which are a bit tighter than your common or garden NRA variety. It is widely considered (by everyone except the Americans, that is) the second-most important match in the calendar after the Palma Match.

Thanks also to all the shooters and their families from the West Indies - in particular our hosts from Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and Barbados - we all had a fantastic time thanks in no small part to their wonderful hospitality, sense of humour and rum. Lots and lots of rum, in better and more varied forms than I have ever come across (with particular note given to Appleton's, Angostura 1824 and Mount Gay Extra Old.)
Cheers!

Did you try any of the 'Dollar' gin? I still remember the first glass I drank with everyone screeching 'DRINK SOME' at me - What they meant was drink something, in fact anything else to dilute what was inside me as it was best avoided neat.
It was good stuff.

If you like your rum, try find some Banks D.I.H. XM Royal from Guyana.
I had the pleasure of working for Banks in Guyana a good few years ago and sampled quite a lot-I dont know if it was the heat or the company of the locals I was with but it tastes like nectar.
I was invited to a Hindu wedding whilst I was there (the Chief Engineer's sister) and we set up a bar out of the boot of his Hillman Avenger-4 cases of Banks rum, a sack of fresh coconuts and a sack of ice from the local garage-happy days.
The country was in turmoil at the time but the place and (most) of the people were fantastic.
