Browning Cynergy Composite
Personaly I hate them from an aesthetic point of view but my Mrs seems to shoot clays quite well with them (far better than she shoots with my Berreta)
I've seen a supposedly mint second hand one for sale for £995 that I'm going to go & shoot tomorrow, having never owned a Browning are there any particular issues I should look out for?
Cheers,
Mick.

Re: Browning Cynergy Composite
Blasphemy! Ha ha! I know their look polarises people, especially the walnut and blued barrel brigade (WBBB) but they really are good guns.
When they first came out there were all kinds of horror stories about the rubberised inserts on the grip and foreend rotting away (from sweat?!), them dropping to pieces after 100 'game' cartridges, flexing like they were made of marshmallow blah blah blah, ALL of it bullsh!t made up by precious WBBB members
I've had mine for 5 years now and its just as tight in the hinge as the day i got it, if you open the action with the key it just stays there, the barrels don't flop down like traditionally hinged guns after a few thousand cartridges. I've never had a misfire, both barrels going off together, broken firing pin, literally nothing. There are 5 other Cynergys in my clay club and its the same story.
The only thing to really watch for is the same mechanical problems any shotgun can suffer from. Everything else is just how good the cosmetic appearance of the gun is and does it come with all of its chokes (5), stock casts (3), beads (i think 6), triggers (3), butt pads (2). One thing you can check is the firing mechanism. The Cynergy is striker fired so you can dry fire both barrels without having to bang the butt of the gun after the first trigger pull. Open the gun to cock it, close it and pull the trigger twice, you should get a click both times, if not then something is wrong.
Actually there is one minor problem that Cynergys can suffer from, if the side of the breach block isn't cleaned/lubed regularly it can discolour, and that did happen to mine i'm ashamed to say. But its nothing that can't be removed with some ultrafine wire wool and oil.

Re: Browning Cynergy Composite
Are these actually made by Browning or by Miroku?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I've been told it depends on the year of manufacture which you can work out from the serial number. I;ve not looked into it myself though. As long as it works and looks how i want it to look thats all i care about!Sim G wrote:Are these actually made by Browning or by Miroku?

Some drinks bottles and cans, some gaffer tape and a tin of black spray paint would get any gun looking the way you want it. Tactical Blue Peter! :lol:Blackstuff wrote:As long as it works and looks how i want it to look thats all i care about!Sim G wrote:Are these actually made by Browning or by Miroku?

I got the "Black Ice" shortly after they came out - being a fan of all guns of the black variety. I must have put upwards of 10K cartridges through it as well as taking it pigeon/game shooting (that turned a few heads ) and have found it be an excellent gun.
The grips have worn a little over the years, however as I actually use it, rather than keep it in a zero static box as a museum piece, I can't set it upset me that much. The only thing I changed was the bead after I snagged it in my gun slip. I replaced it with an easy hit fibre optic bead (and have them on most of my regular use shotguns), which is definitely worth doing.
At the very least it's a good investment - if you look after it, you should be able to get your money back on it if you decide to sell it. I paid £1300 for mine 7 or 8 years ago, they now retail at around £2K!
