Proofing a gun before sale

I have a rifle that I personally imported from the US about 10 years ago. It's never been proofed. Speaking with someone I said should I ever sell the said gun, I'd have to have it proofed. The guy I was speaking to stated I wouldn't have to as it would be a private sale and proofing relates to those manufacturing and retailing guns.

T'interweb search didn't bring up anything concrete, so, does anyone know if this bloke was right or not? Doesn't sound right to me.

Small Arms not to be sold or exported unless proved and marked as proved.

A Small Arm shall not be sold or exchanged, or be attempted to be sold or exchanged, or be exposed or kept for Sale or Exchange, or be exported or attempted to be exported or be kept for Exportation, unless and until the Barrel or every Barrel thereof has been duly proved at the Proof House or a Branch Proof House of either of the Two Companies, or some other public Proof House established by Law, and duly marked as proved.

You must get it proved.

I would ponder a bit more as well, there is the Kudos of a London proof mark versus, hmm, well.. Brum or the Smoke, either way things are not looking bright, personally I would ship mine to Lieges given the chance however in order to do that they would need a proof mark.

Quite a few brits choosing residence in France, came with an European Firearms Pass and, for their peace of mind, had their rifles proofed at St Etienne...

Went once with a friend who wanted assistance....Imagine his surprise as he was waited at appointment time, was allowed to attend the proofing and procedures of measuring, stamping,registration, etc....and went away about 1/2-3/4 hour later with a nice proof certificate indicating the proof pressure.

On his demand, he was even given the 2 empty cases fired for the proof....

My 30-06 Smith Corona came in the country from the US, before I could buy it from my mate who'd bought it in originally he had to get it proofed. It was done at Brum I think, mind u it took bloody weeks coz they had a backlog.
