What are everyone's opinions on the best after market 10/22 barrels?

Why do you need to change your barrel?

I have a standard blue Ruger barrel that has had way more than 500,000 rounds through it and it still wins comps regularly. It's not heavy, not fluted, not shiny steel, but it can still shoot well.

Unless you have a real need to change it I wouldn't bother, spend the money on ammo.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

I had a green mountain barrel which was too heavy for my liking. I swapped that for an alluminium sleaved tac solution job which was great and ballanced the set up nicely.
This was a SGC custom job from day one so never had a standard barrel to compare it to,

All depends on what you intend to use it for as to what can be recommended , personally I think there's not a lot wrong with the standard set up that a bit of tweaking and tuning wont fix , and do the ammo testing to find out what it likes best .

It's for my volquartsen super lite. I initially had a 16" vq barrel on it which was wicked accurate but was too long for my liking especially with a mod on. So I changed it for a ruger standard bull barrel cut to 12.5" by roger at syss.
My uses are dual purpose of bunnies and targets

I do appologise, I don't know what I was not thinking of - my 10/22 was from SYSS, never in a month of Sundays from SGC.

I have an Adams & Bennett Heavy Match on my VQ, cut to 14". My mate has a Ruger 10/22 T with their hammer forged bull barrel target barrel. His shoots as well as mine. Leave your Ruger barrel on it. You'll spend a lot of money and only get bragging rights as I doubt you'll gain anything in performance.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

As some have already said if your ruger barrel shoots good just leave it.The original skinny carbine barrel i had on mine shot really well, however i did change it but only because i got a really good deal on a 12.5" kidd barrel.

The problem with mine is the groups out past 50 yards open way up like 2-3" it's a tack driver inside that. But I need to be able to shoot bunnies further out like 70-85 yards. I've tried a lot of ammo through here and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm going to try some proper match ammo and see what that will do but think if that don't work ill maybe get a 12.5" vq
