S2 and S1 shotguns

So here's a question for you knowledgeable types.

If a person has the same shotgun in both S2 and S1 (in this case, a benelli supernova which has serial numbered barrels) can he legally swap the barrels between the two guns? Both are fully working, but one has a more suitable length for a particular purpose.

It seems some counties are recording serial numbers of barrels, and some are not.

Any experience of this? Anybody done this?

This is the stupidist thing ever - if you put a sec2 barrel on a sec1 shotgun, it then becomes a sec1 barel and you can not put it back on your sec2...

A friend bought a brand new luxano from hatsan, now it came from a well known shooting sports outlet and came with 2 barrels, yes it was on a shotgun licence.....now when he came to sell it he had no paperwork for the spare barrell,iand no records for it? Although the serial numbers were different, Should he have records for it? He just gave it in to the local rfd for free in the end....

I digress a bit but it sort of ties in with the above post,if no record exists for the barrell It does not mean one can just put whatever one likes on a sec 1 shotgun, as I suspect idealy the numbers of body vs barrell would not match, and you could wind yourself up in big trouble, especially with some of the squeeling grasses you get in shooting these days, thinking they are upstanding members of society by being informants on fellow shooters for what ever intentional or accidental mistake they make......


So in summation I would agree with dm, dont do it, its not worth getting caught for, do it properly and buy another barrell for it. sign92

My S1 Hatsan Escort came with two barrels, Strathclyde being ever efficient just added it to my ticket as Hatsan "spare barrel" 12g. No serial number on it.

I thought the component parts of shotguns were not licencenable, an SGC is not required for possession. Spare barrels are not required to be entered on the certificate.

I remember being told that also, be it a very long time ago, I woukdent like to test its validity though. And back to the op, s1 putting a sec2 barrel on it is defo a no-no...... :cool2:

My Hatsan was S1, Strathclyde are (were) like that - a million questions why I NEEDED a spare barrel. No big deal in the scheme of things.

Spare barrels are a slightly different topic, i'm talking about swapping barrels over between two shotguns you own, one S2, one S1 (one being a 28" one being a 24"). It does appear this is a no-no, regardless of how daft we think it is!

Guess I'll have to have the barrel on my S1 SN shortened and re-threaded for half the cost of a brand new shotgun rather than looking for a S2 24" SN. Or just sell it, and buy another one :-|

Spare barrels are not required to be entered on the certificate.

They ARE entered up here...my RFD added 2 Auto 5 barrels to my SGC.
They are now listed on the table of contents
