This guy made a tool...
from a 1" C clamp years ago and it still works perfect. I cut the clamp screw off at near wide open and sharpened the cut off end to a point, Place the point very near the edge of the slot right next to an old stake mark, Then I just strike the top of the tool to displace a small amount of receiver material to capture the latch in the groove. There should be some old marks from the original stake that look like small chisel dents.
The receiver in the picture isn't a Remington but it would work the same. The knife was to tilt the receiver toward the light, It needs to be on a smooth firm surface.





Or! Just glue the spring in place with epoxy, mind and degrease first, Vodka works if you don't have Isopropyl alcohol.

BTW the guide rails on a 1100 are razor sharp, I've cut myself, (twice).

Yeah. I did try superglue, a lot of people say that repair works for years. Its only a leaf spring to hold cartridges into the magazine. It isn't a pressure surface so I can see no way that could cause a problem. It's broad surface to glue too. Maybe my degreasing was inadequate because it came out again the next day. Superglue shouldn't do that.
