Game old Bird.

#1 Post by Jenks »

About five weeks ago possibly, six whilst visiting the two graves I'm tending, I spotted a Jackdaw with his wing down, obviously broken. Apart from the obvious injury, there appeared to be nothing wrong with him/her. I thought at that time he won't last long. I was amazed upon my return from my Hols to see him still hopping around. He stays mainly in the graveyard but I have seen him/her on the other side of the main road.

Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, he was quite a distance from me and would not stand and pose for me.

Well 'Jackie' is still hopping around. I have found out that he goes across to the factory unit opposite the church for his breakfast in the mornings. I was wondering where he managed to roost safely. that question was answered last evening I was filling up a watering can from a tap behind the oil storage tank at the rear of the Church when I spotted 'Jackie' heading my way. He seemed oblivious to my presence, he hopped up to a wire that was acting as a guy rope to a telegraph post and started to climb it using his beak as a parrot would. The post disappears into the canopy of a couple of Yew trees so he was able to hop off into the trees.. Safe for the night. How clever is that

Chuck..

Oh! dear going to have to come clean.... The first time i saw the poor critter I was carrying a rake and was tempted to put it out of it's misery :o But there was no way I could get close enough. Of course now seeing how well it copes with it's disability I'm delighted that I couldn't get close enough.I hope to see it around for a long time yet. :good:
