It's never been done in .22 mag as a conversion unit

Basically remove .223/5.56 bolt and carrier, insert conversion unit and your shooting .22 takes under a minute!

That's the idea, this YouTube video gives you a demo, now I'd I could get a nice quality AR in .223 with a cheap and cheerful drop in .22 conversion, I would definitely be interested.

I had a look at the Spikes AR's , they look good, how would they compare to CMMG quality?

IMHO, CMMG do the best work with the conversions, the stainless steel one will run pretty much 100% right out of the box,

As for rifle, it depends on what you want to spend, and who you want to sell you something made in the states or Build you one here.

Personally A lot of my Choices in the AR market are picked not on the quality of product but ont he quality of Back up service....

Theres a few I wouldnt touch with a barge pole!

If you want something built then Mark Bradley, or Dave @ Valkyrie do nice work, IF you can afford it then go for a Lantac.

If you want something that has been Assembled Overseas then your choices are Spikes or LMT (I've not seen a full bore CMMG for sale yet...)

It all depends what you want to do with it,

You may get lucky, like I said I get 1" at 50 yards out of my SGC with my conversion fitted, however my Conversion wouldnt even fit in a cheaper AR Rifle.

If you want sub MOA then get a dedicated .22 Upper.

Just a small note, I approve of this topic, it's not so much derailed, as switched to an almost parallel track lol :D

ARs are Mecanno sets, they are relatively simple to put together. What you end up with is dependant on what you want to spend and who you get to put it together. If you can assemble the parts yourself and have an appreciation of engineering principles and understand the basic of how an AR is designed you should be able to do a reasonable to excellent job yourself. If you wish to entrust it to a 'Gunsmith' then there are only three I would recommend; in no particular order Southern Gun Company, Valkyrie Rifles or Bradley Arms, all these three have a proven record in competition. However, do not discount LanTac as they by all accounts produce a high end product but, AFAIK, it has yet to to proven in competition at a national level.

Oops...thanks for the approval, hopefully we may get a few suggestions on UK .223 AR suppliers and the drop in .22 kit, I will look into the "Gunsmiths" above, but as with everything there will be some compromise over cost and quality.

I'm sure the act states except those rifles firearms chambered for .22 Rimfire cartridges,

And I'm sure I've seen .22 mag semi auto rifles for sale too....

I'm not 100% but I'm sure .22 mag is good to go.

Quality costs, but some are more reasonable than others, do your research and try, if possible, before you buy.

You maybe right but what manufacturer would want too in such a limited market. I have no idea what .22mag costs compared to .22lr but its bound to be far more expensive and given the rational behind having a .22lr "trainer" why bother with .22mag over .22lr. If its ballistic performance at the point of contact (rabbit?) that's the key, get a .22mag bolt gun.
