Some ranges have restricted muzzle angles & guns must not be pointed higher than the backstop, for insurance reasons, thus muzzle down at all times is generally the rule, even after the gun has been cleared & declared safe.

In reality its not hard to comply with, as for a sling I would not have one on a PSG gun, its a potential danger if it were to get hung up on the range furniture.

It gets confusing when you regularly shoot at different places which have different muzzle up/down rules.. especially after an early start and a 4 hour drive :(

Must remember on Sunday, its muzzle UP!

Don't know who came up with the muzzle down but that's what the rule is.Don't if it came in with the surge in target shotgun.

IIRC the NRA came out with a target shotgun rule book fairly recently,dunno if thats when the muzzle down rule appeared.

Muzzle down, better shoot a leg than a head. At least you know where the shot is going muzzle down - muzzle up and it takes out eyes, brains, faces, ears, and whatever it lands on elsewhere - albeit it's shot.

On a sling carry UP, carrying in hand - down! Aye rules - you gotta love them eh :lol: .

I've never really thought carrying a shotgun on a sling with the muzzle down as a violation of firearms safety.

I mean yeah I guess a foot or a leg could get hit if it were to discharge, but I carry my pumps with the chamber empty and the tube mag full until needed.

But in either case my Mossbergs are carried with the safety on and it would take one heck of a bump or knock to cause them to go off even when carried with a loaded chamber.

I remember when it changed for PSG (well UKPSA matches anyway) from muzzle down to muzzle up, you'd look over to the gun rack and people would be doing an impression of cheerleader baton twirler! :lol:

If it IS empty and breech open what should it matter what way up it is - too many confusing rules.... .
