Honda CR500
This arrived today to disrupt my best laid plans. It is a CR500R Honda MX machine, we think it is a 1989 model which is handy if it is as they were not overly sanitised in the power delivery. Next mission is to find an engine however first it needs to be correctly identified as a 1989 model. The 'bike is my sons latest project and luckily went home with him. If anyone can confirm the 89 identification and tell me anything about such things it would be handy as I must admit to having been a Maico person in my day.

Re: Honda CR500
I really am that old as well!
Apparently the CR500 is a homologation special based on the VIN number so I assume that would be one of the first 200 of the model. That could mean it is more desirable however it could also mean it was bloody awful and they changed everything after the first 200..

You're is definitely no earlier than '89. Probably not much later either, by the looks of things.

Re: Honda CR500
The HM VIN points to 1989 however the frame has some subtle changes such as the bracket that supports the subframe is different on the right hand side. I can see this is going to be an interesting project and I am doing my best to not appear too interested however it is a CR500, the one thing I never rode... tongueout
