Browning Gold Fusion
Hi,
I bought a Browning Gold Fusion on Thursday from an RFD. After reading the user manual I decided to strip it down and give it a good clean. Now, to my initial horror, there is no magazine crimp and yes you can put more than 2 in the magazine. I managed to put 4 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber, so 4+1. It was sold to me as a 2+1.
I only have a Section 2 certificate, should I contact my local firearms unit and the RFD ?
Will they just come and take the shotgun away ?
Am I in any trouble ?
Thanks
Happy xmas.

Re: Browning Gold Fusion
I had exactly the same happen to me. I emailed my FET as soon as I found out and detailed exactly what I was going to do. That was take it back to the RFD, first thing Monday morning.
There were no issue's.
Clearly you won't be using it.
If you want, call the FET on the 27th, but the shop will probably be open by then?

No, I wont be using it. The problem is I had it transferred from a RFD in Rugby to my local RFD in East Sussex. Hope I am not going to get stuffed with the TNT courier costs as it was not my mistake.
I will contact both RFD's on the 27th and my local Firearms unit.
Rather a pain as I was going on a shooting break soon. But better to be safe than sorry. It will remain locked up in the meantime.
I wonder how many people don't check as one could potentially end up in allot of trouble.
Re: Browning Gold Fusion
This is quite a common problem and even more of a horror is S2 Shotguns being sold with barrels less than 24" long. I was talking to a gun shop earlier this year, they sold a S2, it came back later as a PX and it was not until after the customer had left that they checked and it was a 23" barrel.
Email you FET now and it is on record, then drop it back to the local RDF when they open. It will need to be crimped and proofed to be used as S2 which someone will need to pay for.

Am I liable to pay for this crimp/proof/courier etc work ?

No way, don't even let anyone go there.
They supplied a firearm illegally and put you in a position whereby you were breaking the law.
I would expect them to be going out of their way to smooth things over,

Re: Browning Gold Fusion
I agree with DM.
The first RFD dropped one by presumably advertising it as S2 however the real problem is with the one you collected from as he did not check the firearm before signing it onto your ticket.

Re: Browning Gold Fusion
Thanks,
Have emailed both RFD's involved and my local Firearms Licensing Unit but no replies yet. Will ring all 3 of them tomorrow.
I still have the original advert which clearly states SGC required and not FAC.
If they try and make me pay any costs then I shall contact VISA and ask them to issue a reverse charge for the original amount I paid for the shotgun. Will just say it is faulty goods or something.
Shame as I really like the gun and was going on a shoot this weekend. Will have to try and get the money back or borrow another shotgun.
Does anyone know how long it takes for the proof house to-do this work as I am guessing they are closed over the xmas/new year break ?

Re: Browning Gold Fusion
They can't put a firearm on a SG certificate.
I would be suprised if they convert that gun, more likely they will swap it for another. Don't worrk about the certificate, the shop should he able to square this away with the FET, ie no jeed to ask for a 1 for 1.

They don't have anymore of them left. A woman bought/imported 12 of them for a shoot up north somewhere and then realised that she should have bought either Side by Side or Over and Under shotguns. The remaining 11 have been sold.
So, potentially there are other people out there that could be in possession of a Section 1 shotgun without knowing unless they take them apart, remove the temporary magazine plug, re-assemble and try more than 2 in the magazine.
There is no crimp on mine or stamp on the mag. The only stamp/proof is on the barrel.
