Simulated Field Shooting in NZ

This form of competition was initiated by the NZDA ( New Zealand Deer Stalkers Association) in the 1960s to promote better shooting under field conditions .
Targets - 3/4 size deer targets. 3'' white spotter presented once to indicate heart dead-centre, before the comencement of shooting.
4 classes were established : under 13yrs, under 16 , under 20 & senior.
Rests permitted for under 13yrs only.
Only hunting rifles allowed-no heavy barrels - no calibre restrictions - Bolt or L/A ONLY.
No slings
No shooting jackets
No elbow pads or gloves
200 yds 5 shots prone , 5 shots sitting , 5 shots snap ( 4 seconds target up & 4 seconds down- per shot)
100 yds 5 shots standing rapid - targets presented for 20 seconds total.
Grouping scored with perspect disc - 7 1/2'' diameter from H.D.C. 5 points , 9'' - 4, 12'' -3 & 15'' - 2 points
Possible score - 100
This format used for local to inter- provincial competition.

Peter, we have the very new and very under subscribed S Class over here which is 'Sporting Class' 2013 was the first official year and it was shot by a few people.

Rules are very simple and include:

Max of 6Kgs rifle all up,
Max 12x 'scope
Max 26" barrel
Any ammunition
Any trigger
Basic bipod only
No sighters before the competition.

But back to the OP, I like the format but I fear my barrel would melt if I did rapid fire with it.

Something like SFS could fit into S-Class but only after we get more people shooting it.

It sounds very promising & well worth supporting. Here, it brings out a lot of dads with their sons & daughters aged between 11 & 20, more so than any other form of shooting I have encounted. smile2

Well...it's supposed to be 257 Ackley Improved.

But during the Christmas/New Year period I was going over the cartridges performance and after doing some measurements I pretty sure what I have is slightly different.

It would appear that what I'm shooting is more like a longer 250 Humdinger with it's 45 degree shoulder instead of the normal 40.

In any case add that to a sporter barrel and you get a very hot barrel very quickly.
