Hi 6.5x55, (nice calibre). We in the UK think that we shoot a fair few deer. I am told that in New Zealand there are men who have shot upwards of twenty thousand reds over a career. That's a lot of shooting. Get out there and enjoy it.

Hi there , yes it's ideal for longer range hunting on mountain tops & valleys. I get an ave. of 3024fps using 120 BT bullets, which is as effective as 130gr .270 @ up to 450 metres but with less noise & kick.
My friend & mentor, the late Stan Curtis, still holds the record for a man on foot ,101 deer in one Day using a sporterisise .303

Most popular calibre after ther .303 as the .222.

Thank you dromia, I don't know how much is known about shooting in N.Z. , but I have several expat U.K. friends who love the Hunting up here , (no season for animals , no permit costs, no shortage of land to hunt on & seven species of deer + Himalayan thar , chamois , pigs, goats etc.
might have something to do with it ?) A small human population has it's advantages.

DID plan to move there a little while back; spent a month at Gun City in ChCh, but by the time I'd come home the job situation had changed. Pity, esp. as I left a couple of leatherwork machines with one of the staff there...should have mailed the buggers home or brought them on the plane. RARE they were...

Nice laws in NZ. Very civilised, & not just for firearms - most of what I saw seemed to have common sense as the prime motivation as opposed to "better be seen to be doing the right thing"

Was looking forward to getting stuck into the grunters with my 45LC & doing same target work with the rifle club there, plus of course adding to the licence for a couple or three pistols, or even F category in sue course.

Brought a very nice moderator back with me from Robbie Tiffin at GunWorks. Need to sort out a few more from him as everyone that sees it is impressed. He's a nice chap & has a great workshop in his garden.

Hi Jon , I bought my 6.5 from Gun City a few months ago , they had the only blued Tikka T3 left in the country. Plenty of s/s ones available elsehere but I prefer chrome moly. Went out to Robbie's on the same trip & cleaned him out of N540 powder. I'll be seeing him again on the 18th of this month, his moderators work extremely well & are very popular.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm about 70 miles from Blenheim , in fact I was shooting rabbits on a farm in the Wairua Valley yesterday.
