.22LR Modular Drum Mag

#1 Post by Demonic69 »

Random internetting lead me to drum magazines, which got me thinking. All .22LR magazines that I have seen end in a single-stack-centred opening.
All of the drum mags I've seen operate the same way, feeding a single column of rounds, followed by some follower rounds that will either block the opening due to size or are held in place at the end of the spring tension (I think).
I'm a big fan of modular design, only replacing what you have to instead of having to have multiple of everything.
I don't see why you couldn't have a system where 1 drum magazine could have several magazine well adapters, allowing users to swap and change as they desire.
From a consumer point of view you only buy the adapter you need. People don't necessarily buy less, most would only buy 1 drum mag due to the cost anyway. If the feed part of the drum was modular a consumer might buy one drum and several different rifle adapters, then they'd be tempted to buy another mag as they seem better value for money. (This is all in my opinion, mind).
There seems to be a market for this, judging by the number of drum mags for sale out there, but it might only be small.
It's beyond me to get anything like this made, though I'd be tempted to adapt one for myself.
It's just an idea, you lot are clever folks and someone might know of one already or even want to get them made, just promise me if you do, I get a freebie :D

Thanks for reading my ramblings :D

Good find, they are practically there! They use the same drum for several models with a "tower conversion" for specific models. If only they had a better range of towers :D
