Converting S2 Semi to S1

Re: Converting S2 Semi to S1
Hmm, lots to consider.
I think I'll get down to the range when the PSG boys are next there and have a chat, see what I can discover. Who knows, one of them may have a spare M2 going for a song
Cheers

Surely after all of this the old adage of try before you buy comes to the forefront???

As said, Hatsans are love or loath, I like them - had three including my S1 semi auto. I do have the hots for the CZ HC-P pump action (actually made in Turkey) Light with excellent ghost ring sights AND it is rifle accurate out the box....
I did like the Benelli Super Nova in the States but when I tried one it was just all wrong in the fit - disappointed - YOU BET! Same with Mossbergs, way too long a reach on the pump actions..Whatever you get - have fun.

Re: Converting S2 Semi to S1
Lots of good advice here, especially from Primer
I've been doing PSG for 6 years now and have seen many gun racks at competitions. The most prolific semi is the Benelli M2, but i can understand someone just starting not wanting to shell out £1200. I would say that a new 'cheap' version of the M2 has been brought out called the M2 Essential, my local RFD has one in for £950. Give it a year and you should start to see second hand ones for £700-800.
Other popular guns are Winchester SX3, Beretta 1301 and Remington 1100.
I've never seen a Hatsan at a high level competition, only at local matches. I really wouldn't recommend on for PSG as they are a PITA to load quickly (both the old and new models) and can jam if you try to put more cartridges in than the mag can hold. All of them have however cycled very well and if it wasn't for the daft loading gate they'd be a great gun for PSG.
Have you considered going a bit mental and getting a Barack Bora 99? Its a budget box magazine fed gun modeled on the AR-15. I;ve got one on order as we speak and should be picking it up tomorrow I'll let you know how i get on with it once i've given it a good try out. I'm hoping to be able to use in in a Lvl3 comp in April, and that will put it to the test

Unfortunately, with spending on getting small-bore and full-bore sorted I'm not left with too much for PSG.
I have a tendency to get into too much at once, but for me now's the easiest time as I have allocated some money for shooting. Could be a while before our lass lets me do that again

Re: Converting S2 Semi to S1
I am in a similar situation. I have a S2 Winchester SX3, is it relatively simple to remove the crimp or replace the mag tube? I like the gun and would prefer to keep it and convert it to S1 for PSG.
I am relatively new to the shooting fraternity so have no idea of any gunsmiths who could do it for me, anyone know anyone good in the North East who could do it for me once I get my FAC?

Is the SX3 the Turkish made gun?sherwood81 wrote:I am in a similar situation. I have a S2 Winchester SX3, is it relatively simple to remove the crimp or replace the mag tube? I like the gun and would prefer to keep it and convert it to S1 for PSG.

There was a thread on here a little time ago about how to take the mag tube off to swap it for an uncrimped type...BUT NEVER do such a thing unless you've got an RFD in the room to complete the permission slot on your FAC (though I have also heard that it MAY be possible to apply for a gun to be switched from S.2 to S.1 status prior to the work being done; you'd best check this with Ponteland, see what they prefer)
Several good RFDs in the area...some better at gunsmithing than others: though for the job you have in mind you'd be just as well served using the Yellow Pages & look up what plumbers do a call out service - as it'll be an unscrew one pipe, screw in a new pipe = job done.
Hence, check with the FLO - they may do the S.2 to S.1 move of the gun prior to you doing the mag. tube upgrade.
Re: Converting S2 Semi to S1
Is the gun currently on an FAC? If so you should be fine to do it yourself (unless it is specifically marked as restricted) based on the legislation and a chat with a friendly FEO. But as Saddler said, better to check with your force.
It should just be a case of finding and fitting a magazine tube. Not sure how easy that would be on the SX3 though
I don't read my own signature!
