Re: Phoenix 2014 - Entry is open!
How many entered the SAW and did it make a loss or a profit this time?
Re: Phoenix 2014 - Entry is open!
I read somewhere someone say that SAW or phoenix events making a loss, just how does that happen?
the RO's dont get paid as far as Im aware, a nigh on thankless task that they dont get anything like enough reward for in my opinion, but aside from cost of targets, how does an event like that lose money?
Im not the brightest bulb in the box, but that one confuses me.
thanks Neil for the info on that other meeting, will have to check my wifes rota, nursing is such an inconsiderate job, gets in the way of my social life all the time :)

Actual Cost of Range Hire and NRA Staff versus the revenue from Entry Fees.
Hosting an event that restricts other range use where more revenue could have been gained if the restriction was not in place.
Difficult one to fathom sometimes as it could be argued that the range would have been unused otherwise. So it’s a compromise as to what they should have made to make a profit against the revenue from entry fees, if they do not count the cost of Range Hire they should make a profit.
I have 15 lanes on Century booked in August, I have had to account for the Range Hire costs, trophies, target sundries and admin costs in the Entry Fee charged, however, the Fee is quite high as it’s a Charity Match with a target of £2000 set to raise for the RBL. Thankfully I’m well on the way to achieving that.

From a quick scan 166 people shooting ~827 competitions. About 6 or 7 no shows. It shouldn't have made a loss based on the numbers shooting and the slightly reduced rage operations. Numbers have not been crunched yet though.John MH wrote:How many entered the SAW and did it make a loss or a profit this time?

In the same way anything makes a loss - when costs exceed income.Tony-c wrote:I read somewhere someone say that SAW or phoenix events making a loss, just how does that happen?
On average it costs £25 a day to field a Phoenix RO. They get fed and a bed if they need it. Out of pocket expenses are also paid to some. They may not get paid directly but it cost over £7000 to RO the Phoenix last year - more if you include outer range marker fees.Tony-c wrote:the RO's dont get paid as far as Im aware, a nigh on thankless task that they dont get anything like enough reward for in my opinion, but aside from cost of targets, how does an event like that lose money?
These are no secret and the headline figures from last year's Phoenix meeting are here:

Re: Phoenix 2014 - Entry is open!
That quite a loss but who's loss is it?
I think every event should pay for itself, if it can't break even then it should not go ahead or should be restructured or reduced in scope. It is in someway easy to see why the NRA has suffered losses in the past if it puts on Matches that lose money.

About 7 or 8% and can be sorted out. Its the NRA's loss. Goes without question that all events should break even or better.
All GRAW meetings are being restructured this year. Phoenix is slightly different as its more than just a GRAW but subject to the same conditions of course.
Re: Phoenix 2014 - Entry is open!
Counting again it was actually 179 competitors and 980 events entered.nfrancis wrote:From a quick scan 166 people shooting ~827 competitions. About 6 or 7 no shows. Re: Phoenix 2014 - Entry is open!
holey moley, just looked at them Phoenix numbers £22k for range hire. huge difference compared to the AAW and SAW weekends
I also wasnt aware that RO's got travel paid for? or at least it looks like it, maybe thats my misinterpretation. I have no problem with that, just wasnt aware.
I guess that my reason for confusion was that I didnt realise the amount they charge for range hire, so do they put in for £22k loss every week that the ranges are unused? must make some fun accounting LOL

That's what makes it a bit hard to work out.Tony-c wrote: I guess that my reason for confusion was that I didnt realise the amount they charge for range hire, so do they put in for £22k loss every week that the ranges are unused? must make some fun accounting LOL
