C&H Gallery: what constitutes a pre-1961 design?
I'm trying to figure out whether my Marlin 39D is eligible for classic GRSB matches. It's a Marlin 39, the design of which which dates to 1897 (with minor modifications) but this particular variant (pistol grip stock and 20" barrel) was only manufactured 1971-3. I can't find any better definition than "pre-1961 design" in any of the handbooks.

Don't know about your particular rifle but HBSA rules for an Anschutz 54 which was manufactured in 1978 is pre 1961 as the design is 1954 .

If its a pre 1961 design, its in. So almost any lever action, lots of bolt actions, Martinis, falling blocks etc.. are eligible.
The guideline is "spirit of the original", so newly built versions of classic guns are allowed.
Also "classic" sights only, so no fibre optics, dots or (most) scopes.
