Permanently attaching the flash hider " shortens " the barrel further....

Neal of Suffolk Rifle Co. has shortened his to a 15" barrel with a threaded barrel, he's checking for me but reckons it will pass with a 12" (inc flash hider) for what I feel is a reasonable price for the job.

That would mean I could make it look like the carbine variant.

What did he say it would cost to shorten it Dave?
I quite fancy getting my CMMG barrel down to 14 inches seeing as that's what the M4 was designed to be.
We only have to have 16 inches because of the laws in the USA.

Sim I've been thinking about chopping the barrel, however I'm not sure about the legal implications, the gun will still fire with the stock folded, so without the 18inch barrel it may not conform to 12/24

Nor does a 10/22 wen u take the stock off for cleaning.....

The 22lr has an 18 inch barrel compared to the 16 and 12 inch barrels of the centre fire version, so to make the 22lr more like the original at least 2 inches of barrel has to come off.

For me, taking it back to carbine length is the way to go.

Before you ask why again -
1) I like carbines,
2) The shorter length would fit into a small safe,
3) Loss of velocity is negligible,
4) Because I could,

Alpha, the idea of shortening the barrel is a contemplation at the moment for pretty much the same reasons as Sandgroper has stated above. It's one of those typical distant projects for me, something that may happen once I eventually have some spare cash, much like setting up an S-Class rig from a Parker Hale No.4 sporter I have, been meaning to do it for well over a year now but it's always been out on a back burner for various reasons.
