Detachable box magazine shotguns to be banned?

#1 Post by BamBam »

Yesterday our club Sec had a visit from a GMP FLO.
The FLO told him that moves were afoot to ban box magazine shotguns.
The club Sec has a Bora 12G currently and is not happy.

Anybody heard anything? Is this just the FLO winding him up?

Not heard anything (obviously or the teddy would be RIGHT out of the pram  ). Don't see how they could do it under the current legislation, although the Home Secretary always has the power if he/she identifies an 'especially dangerous' gun

I suspect its an FLO on a standard bullsh!tting exercise that some of them seem so keen on  I wouldn't make any waves yet, just wait to see if anything official actually comes out

My FEO had never even heard of them when I got my extra slot for one.

He did say that LBP's weren't very popular with the home office while having a look at my 1911. Not sure how much truth there is to that.

He said banned in law, but told our Sec not to worry as full compensation would be paid at current market value. :bad:

It doesn't ring true somehow. How would he know if the home secretary was revising the firearm legislation?

If this was actually happening, I'd bet they wouldn't stop at box fed FAC shotguns.

He possibly overheard something and got the wrong impression. Alternatively, it could be a push by ACPO/NABIS to have them banned and GMP is the lead force.

All pure speculation, of course, but once you see them being referred to as 'Assault Shotguns' by the media...
