I have a pistol...

I have a pistol...
I believe the stock is not original as the lock is just screwed to the side and wonky.
It appears to be a .50 approx matchlock pistol.
The only markings I can make out are hand scratched "A17", which looks recent.
There are some hard to make out markings, although they may be just patterns.
Anyone know where to get further info?

I'm not being funny, Mark, but is it actually a firearm? It looks a bit 'odd', to say the least! Perhaps a museum might be a good place to start?

Seriously, that looks like a 1970's wall hanger. A length of monkey metal tubing lashed to some packing crate timber.....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: I have a pistol...
Well, I had a few people look at it over the weekend and they think it has been cut down from rifle length.
The stock has been badly made up.
But it was said only a museum would be able to tell if it was originally a firearm or a "wall hanger".
The barrel is not just a tube, but has been cast with the flash plate and the rear tang thingy.
It is one heavy hunk of metal.
The smooth bore goes all the way to the flash hole and a little further.
I will be contacting a local museum, quite a few in Cambridge, and hopefully get them to have a look.
Guys down the club first said,"are you gonna fire it" , tk which U said "not bloody likely!"
