Re: NRA Historic Service Rifle Match Results
It was a good match, shame many of the old rifle brigade didn't enter despite many complaint that Bisley only caters for modern service rifles now (CSR).
But I guess it is not the type of firearm that is the issue, it is the entering and competing that stops many.
If you have a competitive nature and like to test yourself and your equipment against yourself and others then you will most likely enter whatever the competition is. That is why we see so many familiar faces.

Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

I'd have come along but ended up doing urgent domestic works instead. Which was a shame, I'd been looking forward to this for months. Hopefully another one runs soon.

I had planned on entering this with my No4 but had other things on.
I have shot the Methuen a few times with it so this should have been a breeze!

It was a well organised match and credit must go to the match officials who made it such a great day, some of us were blessed with fine weather in the afternoon and even had a couple of flyovers by a spitfire, a truly historic day.
Re: NRA Historic Service Rifle Match Results
I enjoyed the match but would have preferred to see the SMLEs and No.4s/5s split out into separate British Classes as there was only one British SR(b) and one Foreign SR(b) so the class split is not really representative with so few entries in these classes.

I agree John; it should be kept to historic Enfields only with two classes only, namely Pre 1919, and pre 1945 as the NRA used to do it.
How SR"b" got involved in a service rifle match is beyond me!

Maybe they wanted to encourage those with foreign service rifles (Mauser, Mosin Nagant, P14/M1917, Springfield, Steyer etc) to compete?Strangely Brown wrote:I agree John; it should be kept to historic Enfields only with two classes only, namely Pre 1919, and pre 1945 as the NRA used to do it.

Re: NRA Historic Service Rifle Match Results
There were more foreign rifles shooting than British Rifles in SR(b).

I'm sure they did, but CSR has been doing quite nicely with Enfields and 10 round mags.Sandgroper wrote:Maybe they wanted to encourage those with foreign service rifles (Mauser, Mosin Nagant, P14/M1917, Springfield, Steyer etc) to compete?
Lets leave the funny stuff for HBSA comps and the Trafalgar meeting, this should then leave a level playing field for any future historic CSR meeting.
