Long Range Rimfire

What is soon to become the LRRC (Long Range Rimfire Club) had their fourth meeting on Saturday - The weather was perfect, and the best we've had yet...from previous experience, most people had their waterproofs on, but they were quickly shed as the day brightened up nicely...and we had some decent wind to test us; with a light but changable breeze to start with on Short Siberia, followed by a proper cross-wind on Century.

I came fourth, which earned me a bottle of ginger wine ( ) - Those with Match Rifle and/or lots of wind reading experience really stood out; with the winner scoring a 73.10 at 200 yards and 65.3 at 300 on standard TR targets for the distance...many full-bore shooters would be happy with that!

Fair conditions for 200 yards on Shorts - Note that both full camo or leather TR bondage kit as acceptable in the discipline

A lovely Autumn afternoon on Century...with a varying 5 to 10 minute wind for .22RF

It's very satisfying to hit a 5.5" bull at 300 yards - The performance of .22RF is underestimated at this range...most of us were holding the 4 ring, only dropping out into the 3s and 2s with sudden wind drops.

We plan to have at least two meetings again next year (April and October), shooting 200, 300, 400 and 500 (400 and 500 are optional) in the Spring, and 200 and 300 again in the Autumn...

...you don't have to be a club member to shoot (just be in an NRA affiliated club) - You can shoot any .22RF rifle you like; with classes for scoped, target and classic...and can shoot prone or seated...it's basically open to anyone who wants to shoot smallbore at 200 yards or more tongueout

I concur, that look like fun something of a challenge. Wish the range was closer.

I shoot RF on the 100m (custom Ruger 10/22 and Sako Quad) and just bought a 22wmr barrel to try RF on the 200m range.

The next one will be a full day in April shooting 5 and 15 to count at 200 and 300 in the morning, and the same at 400 and 500 yards in the afternoon - You can shoot either or both, with a morning, afternoon and combined aggregate...there's usually a few liquid prizes

If you send me an email address I'll put you on the mailing list...you'll get full details (dates, rules, course of fire and elevation/wind tables) a few months in advance.

There's a group who come down from not too far from you (certainly closer than Bisley), who have their own .22 Long Range comp (200, 300 and 500) once a year...I'll try and get you some contact details...

Sorry, I didn't ask permission for the photos, so can't show any close-ups...

...there was a full range of rifles - Quite a few traditional Anschutz and BSA TR rifles ('scoped and apertures), a few classics...a No.2 and an older Martini action - a couple of sporters...and one lad had a very modern fully adjustable 3 position Anschutz with a biathlon type action...he let me have a close look at it; was a very cool action tongueout

This is my 35 year old Anschutz 54 with a 6-24 x 50 'scope on it - I've used a 'droop compensating mount' (great term razz ) so that I can zero it at 200 yards, and still have enough elevation to get to 400...then just aim high for 500!

I remember the old chaps in our club (yer actual Kings Heath Home Guard) talking of doing this years ago. They related how many of the bullets would go through the targets sideways leaving a distinct shaped hole.
