Similar velocity in a shorter action length?
Also from what I have read in the past, a shorter fatter cartridge allows for a more consistent burn of the powder by being closer to the primer which is the reason many of the bench rest calibres have short fat cases. However I have nothing to substantiate that of course, good old internet reading is the source of that one.

Having been shooting .300 WSM for the past couple of months I'm very pleased with it - accurate, efficient, and with .300 Win Mag performance levels in a short action.
I'm currently using Reload Swiss RS62 powder.

How does it stack up against 7mm Rem Mag ? Does it wear out barrels quickly ?

That would depend upon the velocities achieved/burning temperature I guess.
I'm currently shooting a 155gr SMK/65.5grs Reload Swiss RS62 at 3036fps with plenty of room to spare. I'm deliberately keeping the MV down to avoid any issues with HME rules on our club range, but potentially there's another 200+ fps avalable on that bullet. This load is very accurate out to 600X plus (not tried beyond 600yds so far). In the rifle pictured above, it's quite sweet to shoot, but I doubt it would be with the original Tikka Tupperware stock which resides in the corner alongside the gun-safe having never been used.
The next load will be with 175gr Bergers for longer ranges.
I've just ordered 200 cases from Wilson & Wilson this morning who have "loads" (their words) in stock. This was owing to the cases I had been promised from Ireland never materialising.
