#1 Post by Oldskool »

What do you run ? And why?

I've got an M2 which I've not fully got used to yet , the times I have used it , I found it a bit heavy and a bit long .

Been looking at the mossberg jm pro .

Any thoughts ?

What model M2 do you have?

A well sorted M2 is the bee's knees. I couldn't find a 24" M2 so I bought a 24" Stoeger M3000. Almost the same thing really and half the price.

Stoeger here too. Couldn't get a JM930 so saved some cash and bought the Stoeger. Ultra reliable and has been beside Benellis etc when they've s*** themselves.

I don't shoot competitively, just for fun. So, what do I find fun to shoot?

When it's not broken, an Ithaca M37 DSPS - nice gun to shoot, but I've had many issues with it:

However, the M37's been broken since the end of last year, so I've been using a Chiappa 1887:

A Benelli M2 is just about as light and fast as it gets in this country, although you could knock 2" off the barrel if you REALLY wanted to. M2's don't have the gas system of other guns which adds weight to the nose of the gun and with a full mag can really start weighing your arms down.

I use a BR99 as i got tired of thumbing cartridges in one at a time;

With all the cr@p i've added to mine (and yes the Firebird Lower is now permenantly fitted and now works with BR99 10rd mags! shakeshout ), i'd guesstimate it weighs about 10-12lbs, unloaded! Certainly not one for lugging around in the field for hours on end!

One of the three I already have, depending on which division I'm shooting in

Manual: Benelli Supernova
Auto: Stoeger M3000

Mmmmmm preferred mmm.Might not be what i would prefer but i have a franchi raptor and it's been pretty much okay though being gas operated it does like a clean now and again. With the extended mag it'll take 11 carts 12 if i could be bothered to faff about ghost loading it.
Between the cost of the as new gun and extended mag tube i'm in for about £350,not bad.

I use a Remington 1187. To be honest this is probably the most common shotgun for practical in my club.

That said I have a hankering for a Benelli Supernova Pump Action. I have an old CBC 3 Shot in the cabinet that could go to make space I suppose.

Nowt wrong with the 26", when it's back come shoot with us up at Rossendale. if we get an early enough start they'll be enough time to get a texas star or two out and some clay launching poppers.
