Black Powder Revolver choice.

Re: Black Powder Revolver choice.
I have a uberti copy of a Remington....fixed sights and a bloody good piece of fun to shoot.
Tried all different loads and ball size. Settled on 21gr of medium Kranks BP, no 10 Remington cap, .451 ball, no wad 'n' a light covering of mutton tallow over the chamber mouths. Bingo. 25yrds in the black all the time. 5" grouping at the worst......and I'm not used to shooting civilian pistols. The smell and the smoke do it for me every time :flag5:

These are certainly memories of happier shooting days.Dahonis wrote:I have a uberti copy of a Remington....fixed sights and a bloody good piece of fun to shoot.

My competition load was 24gn of 3F Swiss BP. 454" H&N ball topped off with "Trex" cooking fat.
I used "Joyce" F26 caps - these required a larger nipple but were very reliable with no misfires.
As I had adjustable sights I had to compete in the open class against the specialist single shot small calibre, set trigger pistols.
I shot a 96 in the 1988 British Pistol Championships for what might have been second place.
(I was also an unlikely winner of the "falling man" that year, but that's another story :) )

I'm doing a one4one which is free , quick and easy. :)Gazoo wrote:why not put in for all of them ?
Several additional slots would probably take months and I need my FAC quite frequently currently.
I wouldn't mind a .50 BP revolver, but have yet to find a reasonably priced one.

My first FAC in 1979, Northumbria Police. My brother a serving copper at the time said, "put in for 1 pistol and 1 rifle and you stand a better chance of getting it". Well being me I put in for 5 of each and to my surprise got everything granted. Of course I couldn't afford sod all at the time so minor win only.
That was all before my time as ISIS consultant in the north east(I've told them not to bother, it's too rough).
ALLAH...you know the rest

Re: Black Powder Revolver choice.
I recently bought an old Blued Ruger old army, lovely pistol. When I put in for the variation I asked for a spare cylinder. Am looking at getting the nitro conversion so I can shoot it indoors. Worth considering when putting a variation in for a BP pistol.

Ok, I've changed my mind on the .44 and decided on a .45 Ruger old army.
Quick question:-
I thought one4one variation was free ( or so I was told ) but just checked on the Cambridgeshire Firearms Licencing website and it doesnt differentiate between types of variation and specifies a fee of £26.
Do I ignore this and just dont send a cheque?
