Black powder training
Just a quick one to see if anyone knows of any BP training courses in the safe handling, transport and usage of BP?
Have been asked by the ELO of my force for proof of competence as I have applied for an A&K for BP. If anyone knows of any courses please let me know.

Re: Black powder training
I have dropped the MLAGB an email. I have had very helpful information from members at the club but it is nothing but advise. My ELO is looking into documented competency before granting A&Kdromia wrote:Contact the MLAGB.

Re: Black powder training
First I have heard of the need for documentation as well.
I would question the officer on what he is basing this requirement on.

I believe is it local policy as I have been speaking to other COER applicants that this ELO has dealt with who are having the same issues.mag41uk wrote:Is this some new requirement or made up local policy ?

Actually this was just the type of thing I was meaning the other day in the thread about handloading. Some where someone comes out with a very good training course for something and before you know it, plod is making it compulsory.
Durham have had a particularly bad record over the years of medium leval officers seeing something like this and wishing it into law (lore).
Fight them, demand to see where it is written in the home office guidance (it isn't) or in the firearms act, or the HSE regs.

This is the guidance published by West Yorks which is a neighbouring force to me. In chapter 2 it makes reference to competence under applicants.
This is what I believe is being used.

Get someone at the club to show you what the score is, conduct the activity under the watchful eye of the club captain for this discipline, then get the secretary to write a "letter of competence"...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
