BR99 nearly got thrown in a ditch

#1 Post by Gundoc »

So, after me telling the PSG crowd at Diggle that my Bora was quality.
It decided to make a fool of me.

I did some work on the magwell yesterday, taking some of the tight sides out.

Being sensible I took it over to a mates permission and ran a couple of boxes through.
No problem.
Cleaned and lubed
Hit the range today, stage 1 no problems, 20 rds in 2 mags of 10.

Stage 2- load, ready beeeep. Click, feck, rack, click, aargh. Repeat with fresh mag. Nope.
Switch to sec 2 pump.

During a break I strip it to have a look and notice that most crow of mistakes, the knurled nut is on the wrong way round.
Replace it, run 5 rounds through, running.

Start stage 3. Bang, bang, bang click. Feccccccckkkkking gun!

Does anyone have any thoughts on what's causing these light strikes? (Checked base of rounds, all have light strike marks on primer)
Firing pin protrusion seems ok (with the bolt out)

On the plus side, I hit 6/8 on the slug stage using a rattle old mossy with no bead fitted.

Cheap cartridges? I ask only because of rim thickness. Bolt not fully closed? Enough to allow the hammer to be dropped, but just not quite to get the full pin as forward as it should be to detonate the primer.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Are you sure you've fitted the barrel retention but properly and even if it is on properly is it working its way loose again? When I first started with mine it would work loose now and again. I'd check it after each stage

Molot or Saiga? Also if its a Saiga, Brownells uK are selling drum mags for £103.90 and they're the 20 rounders (they're promags I know, but strangely these have a good reputation).

Because I believe nobody else imports them and it will probably be a long time before any more come into the country due to the sanctions against Russia (that also goes for KalashnikovConcern products like the Saiga range and Tigr/Dragunov).

How come I'm still seeing regular supplies of barnaul ammo? I got some 223 62grn and in Canada I have seen a youtube called TV presspass have some 7.62x39. I guess Barnual must not be under sanction then. I'm guessing the sanctions is why Rusmilitary is bringing Bulgarian AK's. I hear they are close to Russian Quality. I'm surprised no one has thought to bring in the Chinese Catamount fury. In the US, its become a Saiga Surrogate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85Q44pISHqM

Also off topic, I may have something of interest to you in the pipeline I'm helping to bring around. I have to maintain some radio silence over what it is though. Come back to me in Mid June and I'll tell what it is ;)
