Scope Rings - Beginners Questions
Hi All,
I have ordered a Tikka T3 Tactical yesterday and I am looking at purchasing a Vortex Viper PST 6-24X50 FFP scope but what I a struggling with is what rings/mounts I need to purchase in order to get this to work.
Is anyone able to offer any advice, or some literature that I can read up on please?
Many thanks in advance.
Paul

Re: Scope Rings - Beginners Questions
Phaedra has a T3 - he may know more specifics on them
In general though, get a set of rings that are as low to the bore as possible yet still allow the bolt to operate.
The phrase you get what you pay for is also VERY appropriate to scope rings & bases....cheap junk that may work on a rimfire or airgun, will not be up to the job on a centre-fire.
I'd look at the Tikka own brand first, but other than that see what other T3/Tikka owners have done with their guns.
Just FYI - Tikka = Tikka Koski - the name of the location, "Woodpecker Rapids" Sounds much nicer in English. It was the Civil Guard arms factory before it was privatised.

Re: Scope Rings - Beginners Questions
I have a similar question.
I have a T3 super varmint on order and will use Optilok rings but not sure what height to get.
It would be interesting to get some feed back from current owners with scope type and rings used.

Re: Scope Rings - Beginners Questions
Yes it is the height that is confusing me as not sure what is needed to clear the bolt.
Re: Scope Rings - Beginners Questions
T3 is a popular rifle, so as I said it'll be a case of seeing who has one, what scope type/dia. they have, and what make/type of rings they're using
Phoned Phaedra - he's driving back from the range so will log on later

Re: Scope Rings - Beginners Questions
The T3 tactical has a picatinny rail so optiloks will not work. Any well made picatinny style mounts will do the job.
Height wise you will need a medium height but may just get away with a low in some makes (best way is to measure! )

Don't know if you were aware but Optilock actually make suitable rings for picatinny rails.MiLisCer wrote:The T3 tactical has a picatinny rail so optiloks will not work. Any well made picatinny style mounts will do the job.

In both cases the rifles will have a Picatinny Rails fitted as standard, therefore you need either Picatinny rings or a suitable mount.mag41uk wrote:I have a similar question.

I have two T3 Super Varmints and have Third Eye/TET Unimounts on both. Third Eye/TET also offer two types of Picatinny rings. Picatinny rings are available from many sources.
