What 17 HMR ammo do you use and how do you rate it?
I have used Hornaday V max so far and have had good groups with it and the rabbits and fox I have shot have not complained.

Genuine question as I don't hunt.....does a .17hmr carry enough kinetic energy to kill foxes?, or is it just at close range.Reason I ask is that I've seen .17 rounds and they look very small.

ive only recently got my hmr and so far have used hornady and Remington , although I have been told that all hmr ammo apart from Winchester is made by cci anyways ,,,
snayperkaya, the .17hmr is about 245ish ft/lb moving at 2550fps ... will easily do a fox out to 100 metres ..

Right now I have a mixture of CCI and Hornady on hand but I use the heavier 20 grain bullet.

If you wanna eat the rabbit you best shoot it in the head !
I shot a pigeon (on the ground obviously) the other week .. It was about 100yrds out .. No word of a lie, you could see through it afterwards !

Yep, for Charlie shot placement is the key though.snayperskaya wrote:Pokey little things aint they!!!, must make a mess of rabbits then?zzr1100 wrote:ive only recently got my hmr and so far have used hornady and Remington , although I have been told that all hmr ammo apart from Winchester is made by cci anyways ,,,

zzr1100 correct. Except Winchester all 0.177 is manufactured by CCI.
Fortunately after many complaints (split necks causing squib rounds resulting in bullets being stuck inches up the barrel) they changed the case annealing process. So the newer ammo, of whatever label on the box, should be reliable & fault free.
