Subs through a Semi-Auto 22LR

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I have been putting Lapua subs through a .22 S/A with silencer and it cycled perfectly however the silencer (PH MM1) was a tad tired so I swapped it out for an identical MM1 which is a bit quieter however the rifle is not cycle as reliably as it did before. It cycles perfectly with Mini-mags with both silencers however it is also a lot noisier.

I do appreciate subs and Semi Autos tend not to go together however it would be interesting to hear if anyone has found a particular make of sub that seems to work with S/A's

Cool = so they're SUBsonic are them??

I used the Eley Subsonic a lot - BUT I have seen on the ELEY website that they have brought out a new brand of subsonic specifically FOR semi-autos

Subsonic CONTACT. Not had a chance to try them yet = the joys of living in the hinterlands of civilisation!

I've also heard good reports on CCI AR Tactical - though I cannot recall whether they are normal velocity or subsonic - they may be on the cusp

CCI standard are on the threshold of subsonic, they moderate quite well.

AR Tactical is supersonic, but a tad slower than Minimag, IIRC.

My AP74 works with anything, use remington on wabbits and CCI at club. Also likes mini mags and stingers of course.

CCI standard cycles all mine well as does SK standard plus. Eley contact groups great and also cycles well even without a suppressor in my AR but doesn't cycle my 10/22 takedown so well. It's quite new though.

I guess a dirtier can will create a bit more back pressure.

CCI Standard are "40 grain lead round nose at a sub-sonic 1070 ft/sec" according to the box.

I threw all my boxes away this morning when I emptied them and couldn't remember the muzzle velocity. goodjob

CCI standard works in all the semi-autos I've had, Ruger, 15-22, CMMG, in semi-auto sporting and match chambering..

I can't remember if AR tactical come out supersonic or not, I have just finished a box that I got with the gun and can't remember. I think they are. I think they were supersonic from my Rimfire magic 10/22 as I had the sonic boom rattle round the range like I did with minimags. They weren't as quiet as SK Magazine which go subsonic in my 10/22.
