SIG522 Barrel nut: need to remove it

#1 Post by Odd Job »

I recently got a free float conversion kit for my SIG522. However I don't have a barrel nut wrench for the SIG522, so I can't take the nut off.
Anybody have any ideas where I can get one, or what else I can do?

Find out which way the nut tightens/loosens and use a round nosed punch and hammer to get it off. Put the punch in the hole and tap (or whack :D ) the nut off, you will probably marr the hole a bit.

I had to do this with my SGC LRA9 to get the proprietary barrel nut Bob had put on there, the AR wrenchs didn't fit it. 8-)

I tried that and it doesn't budge. Well, I could probably hit it harder but I am reluctant to do it.

That's a kind offer however the S&W wrench doesn't fit (I have one as part of the free float kit). The barrel nut diameter on the SIG522 is greater than on the S&W.

Ah so the holes on the barrel nut are on the outer side, rather than the face like an AR barrel nut. Would an AR stock castle nut wrench not work? Get a cheap one from Ant Supplies or elsewhere and grind the 'pin' to fit the barrel nut hole? If its too wide you could put shims under it until it was at the right angle?

I am tempted to get the adjustable wrench, probably a good investment.
Prices vary wildly from $35 plus postage to £89 plus postage. I'm more keen on the $35 side of things :)
