AR Trouble

#1 Post by top »

The last couple of times ive use my AR, ive put the mag in and closed the bolt using a bad lever, but when the bolt closes its not closing all the way, so im having to pull the bolt back a bit and push the round in the rest of the way with my finger, then the rest of the rounds feed ok, but its just the first round that gives me trouble.
So is it the spring in the bolt that's needs changing or is it something else?

without wishing to insult you, have you cleaned it thoroughly?

Yes I clean it every week, it just started doing it out of the blue, and the only thing I can think of is the spring on the bolt.

possible its not getting enough oomph from the spring to send it forward, mate had a similar issue with a spikes.
cured by putting a new spring on i believe.

Have you tried it without the BAD lever?

Is this with a CMMG BHOA in the rifle?

It's not always the BAD lever, sometimes just the operation of it with the BHOA.

The FA insert can also cause drag once the pin starts to wear.

I have a LMT - when I changed the butt ( required changing the buffer tube and the spring too ) to an aftermarket one, I had the same trouble. It felt like the spring did not have enough oomph !

I sourced a "heavy duty" spring from USA and its cured the problem.

Is your buffer tube carbine length or rifle length ? And is the spring the right length ? How old is the spring ? Has anybody taken any coils off it ?
