Anschütz 520 versus 525

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I know very little about Anschütz semi autos so can anyone explain the differences between the 520 and 525 please. Visually they look very similar.

I have the 525, and I believe that it is a slightly improved version of the 520 with a strengthened receiver and different case deflector. The magazine housing and magazine are also different

If you look at the parts diagram in the manual from here - http://jga.anschuetz-sport.com/index.ph ... &sprache=1 - you can see which parts have a 525 as part of their number.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the 520 receiver could crack after use with a lot of HV rounds, perhaps that's why it was changed?

Seems quite accurate, has quite a long barrel for a 22, fairly picky about ammunition. The RWS semi-auto round seems not to feed well, Eley is fine though.

Thanks Shugie,

I have read a couple of forum threads elsewhere which suggest the 520 and 525 are not produced by Anschütz and the Americans do not seem very keen on them however it seems like a fine little rifle to me. I will find out this afternoon as I have one that needs testing and zeroing.

Well the 525 we zeroes and shot this afternoon varied wildly dependant on ammunition it was fed however it seemed quite at home with CCI and did not fail to feed a single round, only possible downside is the magazine is a pain to load and there is no bolt hold open on last round.

I would give one house room.

There's something amiss with that one then, with both of the magazines for mine the bit that pushes the rounds up holds the bolt open with the last round. Also, I don't find the magazines noticeably more awkward then those for my K22, even with my sossige fingers.

I know this a bit of a late entry on this post but I have a 525 and have recently had to strip down to replace the bolt handle - what a pain trying to get the spring back in!!!!!! Apparently there's a special tool but that didn't come with my second hand one, anyone else had this experience?

As we now have a 520 in the armoury waiting to be stripped, cleaned and inspected I suspect I will be finding out very shortly! I will try and take a look later this week and report back :)

This is what it looks like so it should be easy enough to make something to suit. I have some 6mm thick aluminium bar so a length some 100,0mm long with a bull nose cutter run across one ned would probably be as easy as shaping something with a piece of tin, I will have a try and see how it goes.
