Yeah right, PSG paper targets haven't even been able to have 'heads' on them since the late 90's so this sort of ridiculousness is right out!
That said if all the 'targets' were Daesh i'm sure there'd be a queue around the block wanting to try out this ride

Just a typical day in the training of a Royal Navy Chef. Easy peasy once you get the hang of it, so no sweat!

Haha,
To be fair - the British Army does do training "similar" to this, troops advance up a hill side - there are markers staked out up the same. A gunner (GPMG usually) essentially leads the advancing troops such that they're always advancing with rounds impacting in front and cracking above.
Safety comes in the form of dial sights on the gimpy and the markers being at known elevations on said dial site and the directing staff are paying attention to what's going on.
It does however get the juices flowing if you're one of said troops.

The South African Defence Force used to have live-firing training ....they may still do it, for all I know. It certainly helps to focus the mind, that's for sure!

As Nick alluded to, we use OverHead Fire guns (GPMG only) as battle innoculation.
However there are some very strict rules, the tripod and gun must be fully inspected to workshop standard prior to use, the barrels are lifed to 10k rounds, and they are accuracy tested after being bedded in and balanced.
If one round out of 25 falls outside the box. Fail and start again.
The rounds are always a minimum of 3m above the ground where troops are in the open
