thankssign

Could be a good idea - seeing as you'll be clip-slotting the receiver! :p

It's that thing the barrel is screwed into & the bolt rattles around in.

IF we'd known you were calling into see Dromia end of 2015 we'd have told said chap to pass it over to you, as it's having a lie down at his place waiting for the paperwork to go through

AND

Got a period correct Fajen stock this afternoon - $60 - but at that price it's far from mint & will need a minor repair then the barrel channel opening up

Jon doesn’t use the forum anymore.

No, it’s not finished, too much other stuff going on. I remind him of it every couple of months or so. His new M24 is the current focus.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Oh, I didn't know Jon no longer uses the forum, although I don't use it as much as I once did.

It'd be cool to get updates if the project takes off again, I'm interested in doing something similar :)

A lot of people on many forums seemed to move towards social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc for ease of use. The downside is the content is incredibly difficult to search through plus the content is always owned by a third party and can be binned at any stage. Youtube is a perfect example and I have had some of my own obviously subversive videos removed (Like how to use a cartridge comparator) Equally Facebook shop can and will refuse to show the most innocuous of products. Never mind, as smart 'phones make such platforms so much easier to access than forums regardless of content quality.

Interestingly I have seen a couple of new forums come out of Facebook groups and I have even joined a very specific shooting related one myself. all of a sudden images and content is easily searchable and remains the property of the forum owner, admin team and members, exactly as this forum does.

As an aside, I once wrote an article on Facebook a while ago in a public area. Even a search by specific title on Facebook and Google fails to reveal it despite it still being there. That article and all of its comments are nigh on lost forever...

Facebook tends to be "content of the minute".

Forums generally have a much longer half-life and the content remains relevant.

Aside from which at least on forums, certainly this one, there's a level of accountability. Someone new signs up and starts spouting a load of non-sense, there are long standing highly respected users to come along and put people in thier place.
Due to the ease of setting up groups, people with relatively no background knowledge can place themselves as admins and push whatever agenda they want to, and allow people who are giving out sometimes dangerous or illegal information to continue.

Many times I've seen facebook groups setup by people who are known eejits to everyone on the shooting scene who somehow manage to get the ear of many new shooters, who don't know better and then come to their defence. It's worrying, for the most part.

I prefer forums like this one, who despite a main admin who can be a bit heavy handed :squirrel: , generally has good information and people look out for one another.
