I beg to differ. My sako finnfire shoots easily as well as my anschutz 2213. It's also magazine fed, ready for scope mount, bipod easily mountable via the sling button (as opposed to a euro rail which the Harris #6 adapter is notoriously hard to acquire) and it's great fun.

I think the point here is that he's writing off one of the possibly best actions available sub £1000 because he doesn't like wood and has had a bad Sako Quad.

The OP mentioned plinking and target shooting, and whilst I do love my target rifle for bipod and sling shooting, it's not what I would call a plinker.

When we asked for clarification of what was wanted, no information was offered, however we can reasonably expect that an all out target rifle is not in the vein of what the OP is after considering it is to replace a sako Quad. (again, magazine fed, sporting style rifle).

Given that the OPs objective was target shooting, why would he choose a hunting rifle?

Surely the right answer is a dedicated target rifle - ie heavy barrel, single shot...

I've just picked up an aluminium stocked Feinwerkbau that would do the job lovely for not much more than a new Sako. At the other end of the scale my £100 Anschutz 64 has brought me a couple of possibles on a 10-spot card...wood stock though.

If the OP had said I'm looking for a rifle for competitive target shooting, I agree, any sporting rifle won't get a look in. Even a fairly basic thirty year old Martini will usually knock spots off most sporters when it comes to accuracy at 50-100 yards, however, referring to plinking puts a whole different view on things.

Maybe there needs to be a scale of 1-10.

1= plinking/fun, semi-auto, maybe 10/22, Buckmark etc.
10 = serious prone or 3P, single shot, Walther, Anschutz etc.

Something like a CZ 455 maybe a "5" a Sako Finnfire maybe a "6-7"

I shot this on Saturday at Bisley, 50 yards of the wobbly benches on Melville in the rain.

Sako Finnfire P94S, 5 shots, .213" (C-C) Maybe not so accurate as a "target" rifle but more versatile and higher "fun" factor.

There's nothing wrong with either of my rifles. i wouldn't call the Sako finnfire a ratty old sporter, either.

I've got far more Posses with my finnfire than I have with my Annie, though I suspect that's more being suited to shooting with a scope than jacket sling and dioptres.
