If you don't want to switch uppers and lowers around I HIGHLY recommend the catch 22 bolt catch for your AR lower, it let's you use smith and Wesson mags and it's by far the simplest method, BHO works every single time.

The mag thing and the better mag insert are a faff to install and use, they fall out and are more complex. They do work but the catch -22 is loads better imho.

I've had 26,500 through my CMMG and I've only had to clean the bolt catch out once. Other that that it's worked every time.

Why would you need the catch-22 BHOA in a CMMG? It already has it's own BHOA doesn't it?

I didn't get on with the S&W mags in my ST-22. For one the mags aren't as wide as a milspec mag well, so you need to use a spacer to account for the difference between the two and then it means the BHOA isn't reliable, because there's play... I gave up trying to get the BHOA working in my ST-22, I think I exhausted all options in the end.

The BHOA supplied with the cmmg is a bit like the better mag one, a drop on kit.

I've got six mags with the spacers on, it really, really, makes absolutely no difference to operation or mag insertion or changes. I shoot it on timed comps, Mags fall free from the rifle easily and feed perfectly.

No adapters to lose, easiest to load, sturdiest and most reliable feeding mags for an AR I've found.

I've never found a reliable BHOA for a .22AR

But the catch 22 is great, the mag size issue isn't an issue when it comes to insertion, feeding or releasing. You shove em in, empty them downrange , bolt holds back and they drop right out, perfect.

Mine is a CMMG bolt group though, not a spikes.

Thanks. Maybe the issue with using the catch-22 and the S&W mags in my ST-22 was the bolt. I tried to fettle one of the S&W mags I bought and whilst the mag worked perfectly, the catch-22 BHOA probably only worked 70% of the time.

How reliable is the catch-22 BHOA when it comes to locking the bolt back on the last round in the CMMG? 100%?

Mine works just fine, no spacer needed on the S&W mags, so they still work in my 15-22.

A better mag adaptor falling out? Must be a very worn magwell!

The CMMG no longer comes with the BHOA adaptor.

If you want to speak to Derek, I would call soon he is about to close for October (I called yesterday).
He closes for October? and reopens when?
I am not sure if he closes every October, it was just mentioned by Derek in conversation (I called for 6.5CM ammunition, I know more chance of seeing a Unicorn).

My BHO is extremely reliable. It stopped working once during a 5,000 round no-cleaning experiment and when I cracked it open I found the Cath could not move feeely due to the vast carbon deposits. Cleaned it and it's been faultless since.

I mostly shoot minimag cci tac, federal.
