I was going to apply for 5, but in the end, applied for 4 and got 4.
I've been down the 'got to have this got to have that, ever expanding collecting route' for other things in the past, and I'm deliberately trying to avoid that again now at my age.......(he says more in hope than expectation )

Still waiting on my FAC however wish I'd asked for more than 1 .22LR slot as time/money to apply for a variation in future.
Also wondering if I should've applied for 5.56/.223 as I didn't appreciate you could get .22LR conversion kits and would hopefully save some money in the long run.
Bedfordshire seemed to be a tad uneasy about allowing more than 4 firearms and 250 rounds for each on first issue of an FAC, once you had been shooting for a while they seemed very happy to grant additional slots and increase ammunition holding. I am not sure how things are Bedfordshire since Beds and Herts merged with Cambs and did hear some horror stories regarding ammunition holding and it has been suggested they are actively working towards reducing ammunition held.
Lincolnshire is interesting as they will allow reasonable holdings of expanding ammunition for shooting overland.

Doesn't an unrequested ammunition allowance reduce count as a partial revocation? Or are they applying pressure to get people to 'voluntarily' reduce their holdings?
I presume this thread is sticky for us newbies to ask our endless stupid questions. Mine is:
Do I have to apply to the force nearest my home for a FAC? I live in Essex, and have joined a local club where everyone has been great. However, the new licence processing time in Essex is an estimated 40 weeks, while in London, where I work, it is an estimated 8 weeks. Can I join a London club shoot after work and apply for my licence via the Met if I put my primary club as the London one?
I fear I know the answer to this but I can't find it explicitly stated anywhere. Thanks.
Your licensing authority will be the one covering your permanent home address. On applying to the Met, and giving your home address in Essex, you would be told to contact Essex Police. If they were feeling helpful, they would pass it over themselves. It would however have to end up at the licensing authority covering where you live :)
Make sure you put all that on the form and tell them to pop it into the Met as they're obviously doing it right
Why 40 weeks that's ridicules. There is no way on Gods earth it takes 40 weeks to sort out a firearms licence it takes about four phone calls and a back ground check. Once they have checked your home security of course. My renewal took about ten days.

Presumably they are understaffed hence the ridiculous lead time. And in all likely hood Essex has a large amount of existing FAC holders who are looked after first.

It's what I was told in Somerset anyway. Your paperwork goes straight to the bottom of the pile, a pile which grows longer each day!

I think Essex are currently running the longest time to grant process periods in the UK.....? Unless someone knows a force that is worse
