Or the AIA one, looks like a no5 chambered in 7.62x39 and takes AK mags
What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.

I applaud your enthusiasm, even though your grip on reality may be somewhat tenuous......

Nooo.....I was talking about 7.62x54R for Enfield...any one did it before maybe??I know about Winchester lever actions built for russo-jap war in 1905 in USA in 7.62x54R....and in 2WW a lot of hardware was send to Russia-tanks,aeroplanes-maybe some Enfields too, after conversion...???
Re: Nagant + Enfield ......
I've handled a WW1/1917 Revolution surplus "White Russian" Lewis gun in 7.62-54R, BUT how many Enfield rifles were made/convrted to 7.62-54R exactly? Or just buy a perfectly good M38 or M44.......rather than modify a No.5bnz41 wrote:Instead of taking a perfectly good british No5 in .303 and rebarreling it you need something like this....polemass wrote:Why?-simples...ammo unification/costs,only 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R for me...

If you did rechamber an Enfield in 54r you may well have a problem with pressure, the 54r round is higher pressure than the .303 especially milsurp rounds......54r pressure is in the region of 56,000 psi.A No4 action may take it but did the No.5 have less "meat on it's bones" to keep weight down?
The other issue is you would probably not get it to feed smoothly and reliably which is an Enfield strong point. And according to a quick search on the 'net a .303 chamber reamed to 7.62x54r doesn't clean up properly and you end up with a second step in the brass.

Re: Nagant + Enfield ......
But if the barrel was shot out you'd be screwed, if it is shot out for .303 it would be shot out for 7.62x54r........though you could smoothbore it for .410 I supposepolemass wrote:Ok,ok-I did my research too,was thinking more about Enfield with shot out barrel,ok-no4/SMLE made to look as no5 will do too.I will write it down in my "Brilliant Idea Book"...
