I had the misfortune to snap the mainspring on my 1873 Uberti lever action rifle (.38/.357 calibre). The gunsmith I left it with contacted me today to say Kranks are quoting minumum 2 to 3 months for a replacement!!!!!!
I am going to try A and A Gunsmiths, Dauntsey Guns and Brownells tomorrow. Has anybody got any other ideas or got a spare main spring they would part with???

Go to Uberti direct. Call them, they speak really good English...

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Many thanks Slim. As an aside, I also got my Marlin 39A back today all fixed so I will be shooting that a lot more now the Uberti is out of action.

You don't seem to have much luck with underlevers.

Did you give it to a 'smith to sort? Did you not try yourself? Likewise, get your 1873 back as well. Once you get a spring, it's a doddle to fit yourself. Honestly, the 1873 is a design you can comfortably work on if just replacing parts.
And the Marlin 39 is even simpler!
Just need the confidence for that first full strip down...

I did give the guns to the gunsmith I had bought them off as I wasnt confident enough to do it myself. However, he only charged me ten pounds to strip, clean and reassemble the Marlin. I have seen videos on youtube now of how to strip it so will give it a go next time.
Bradaz - that would be great if you could let me have copies of the manual please.
