Rem 700 action

#1 Post by jay851 »

Hi
Got a project in mind but will need a rem700 action/barrel. .308 caliber, short heavy barrel, 14" - 16" long. threaded.
Anyone in the u.k just sell actions without stocks?
Thanks
Jay

Considering the SPS varmint stock se ms to sell for 50 quid a pop, I can't imagine you'd ge a barrelled action much cheaper than a complete rifle. What you plannng?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Its on a bit of a budget sim so anything cheaper is good.
Bit of a different project and not to many peoples taste, but have always been a fan of the fn scar 17 H. Would love one in straight pull, but as that is never going to happen i would settle for a bolt action version. I have access to mills/lathes so would like to build a scar chassis around the action.
Is the sps varmint the heavy barrel version?

Yep, the SPS varmint is a heavy barreled version. The cheapest is probably going to be around the 500 quid mark, I'd have thought. New Remingtons are just crazy money now. I saw a VSSF in .223 for 1500 quid new! Second hand prices are now reflecting what people are paying for a new version.

If you have a look on Gun Trader you can usually find the odd Remy for under £300 for a shot out rifle - usually 22-250s You might even get a few £££ for the stock etc.
