Anyone have one they done use anymore? I’ve had a quick scout on flea bay but nothing that matches what I’m after.

Get a Zippo petrol lighter - that'll work-

All round good guy and VERY grumpy old man.

Speak to Phil at Caving Supplies in Buxton, he took over the manufacture of premier carbide lamps many years ago. I spoke to him last week and he still holds spares and might be persuaded to make a complete item from what he has.

I also need a dedicated carbide lamp as I use something I put to together from oddments however it is not ideal. Maybe now is the time to make a few however the stumbling block last time was finding suitable flint holders with strikers at a sensible price.

What you need is just regular motor petrol (as used in the mower) put that in a Zippo type lighter for black smoke to be proud of.

Surely the soot of a candle would suffice?

Ah. In that case get a jam jar with a metal lid and some calcium carbide off Ebay,
Punch a hole in the lid to accommodate a length of narrow copper tube
Bung some water and carbide chips in and ignite the result. Job done.
