.303 Military Rifle

#1 Post by MotorRacingBruce1980 »

Licence is now back from variation so looking for a .303 to take part in Military Rifle open sight target shooting.

Must have a good usable action and barrel, obviously the better the accuracy would be better for me.

Will consider anything price dependent so let me know what you've got.

Current preferences are along the lines of Enfield No4, Eddystone P14 but will consider anything.

A p14 or No4 will be your best bets given the open sights used on them. The P14 is more accurate but has a smaller magazine so if you're course of fire dictates strings of say 10 shots against the clock, you'll be at a disadvantage.

My vote is also for the P14, not a pretty rifle however accuracy is invariably head and shoulders above the Enfields I have shot.

I have a Ross Mark III in .303, although its not for sale. That Rifle makes me look half a decent shot.
Has nice sight as well

Many thanks for all your help and advice.

I'm now a happy owner of a No.4 Mk1/2 and it looks almost unfired!

Will put a post up soon with a bit more info etc etc but here is a pic for now.

Nice!
What sort of money for rifles of that quality these days?

I think I did quite well as got this for £650. Might of been a show price though as got it from the British Shooting Show at the NEC.

I think you did well too - I was expecting maybe as much as another £150 - £200 notes on top of that, given some of the asking prices on Guntrader.
