The Bren didn't have a Blank Firing Attachment, instead we were supplied with Bulleted Blanks.

They looked like normal 303 rounds but the Bullet was made of wood painted blue.Great fun to shoot, especially on exercise in the dark.

You were supposed to fit a special flash hider, designed to break up the Bullet on exit, but we didn't have any, just told not to shoot anybody.

I have a few of the wooden bullets somewhere, until now I did not realise they were for 'blank firing'

No idea of the range, but my old man used to tell me that the splinters from the (broken up) bulleted blanks hurt like hell!

No idea of the range Ovenpaa........Would be interesting to try a few, but they are probably collectors items.

I imagine it would hurt like a b****** out to 20 yards or so!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Steve wrote:A little while back there was a series on History channel called 'Mud men' and Johnny Vaughan fired a Vickers at Bisley.Point im making is he's a civillian and was shooting a full auto in the UK so there must be loopholes somewhere.
I talked to Colin at Fultons about this and apparently since the programme, they've had loads of calls from people saying that if they can do it for Johny Vaughan and his mate, what about letting us have ago. The answer was NO and the reason that the Mud Men were allowed to is that allegedly, the Firearms Act exempts 'actors' from using live Firearms in the production of films or programmes.

Sad that we can't get to use heritage weapons like the Bren in it's country of origin whilst so many other Europeans and Americans have access to those very same weapons.

Perhaps it would be a good opportunity for the cash strapped Government to make a bit of dosh by holding controlled open days where you could book, pay and go along to fire your favourites. I guarantee, every day would be sold out.

Guess it would be too Non PC to consider though.

Try Scottsdale Gun Club in Arizona. The do full auto macine gun rentals indoor..They used to do belt fed weapons there, I fired and FN240 and M60 on their indoor range.

http://www.scottsdalegunclub.com/index. ... &Itemid=17 If they cannot help try ranges in Las Vegas area. I am sure there is an outdoor range there that does the big stuff.

Alternatively visit the Big Sandy Shoot in Arizona and you do anything from an Uzi 9mm up to a Minigun!

Perhaps he was waiting for, "Ah, Fat John who comes down the club has one. You can "rent it" for sixty quid, but don't tell the rozzers......"

And as everyone knows, that can't happen........

('Coz it's actually Skinny Harry and he's got an MG42!) ;)
