So the no-voters are ignored, and we get a party in that has a fraction of the total population actually supporting them....

RDC: I don't give a s**t what people spend their money on, I just don't get why anyone would spend it on such a fugly toy as a pump action shottie.......or come to that, a Range Rover Sport with 22" wheels.....(I could go on...)

....... I can't remember who said it but there is a quote somewhere, "Wanting to pursue a career in politics automatically makes them the least suited to the job." Truer words have never been spoken.

Couldn't agree more. I'm concerned about the motivation behind wanting to be a career politician. No doubt some have the best of intentions but.....

I wouldn't call the Remington 870 Wingmaster pump action a fugly shotgun. It looks fine to me. Of course, there are versions with plastic stocks etc that are a bit fugly, but very suited to their purpose, be it a pigeon hide or law enforcement. I think some of the modern rifles that look like they are made out of Meccano and plastic such as the AR clones and similar are pretty ugly looking. I wouldn't call a Tikka TAC A1 and similar pretty rifles. They are no doubt fine for their purpose, but not good lookers to me.
Regards
Peter.

Or the Tories. Not much of a choice, is it?
The UK deserves better.
This is why I get frustrated with the people who say "if you don't vote you have no right to moan". Utter b***ocks! I refuse to be forced to vote for someone I don't want just because I don't want someone else more... And I will very happily moan about what any of them are doing because they are all as bad as each other! I can't remember who said it but there is a quote somewhere, "Wanting to pursue a career in politics automatically makes them the least suited to the job." Truer words have never been spoken.

I think he does, because whatever the politicians might be, the one that rule us were elected. But not voting is not the solution, he suggests those who vote are responsible for what politicians do, and that only those who don't vote have a clean conscience, seemingly overlooking that many people actually bother to get off their arses and go and vote against those who end up elected. At least they tried to do something.

In this country at least, it is damned hard work to become a politician, you have to compete against others to get chosen as a candidate, except for the smaller parties in local elections, where candidates can be scarce. But for Parliament, you need to fend off half a dozen or more chancers who also fancy being an MP, more in a "safe" seat, then win over the swing voters who make the difference between you winning or loosing your seat. Knocking on as many doors as possible, motivating people to come and work for you, for free, in all sorts of s*** weather.

There are exceptions to this, a sitting MP in a safe constituency can be pretty lax, and if your party has enough money, campaigning can be done with online advertising.
Careful now/that sort of thing

Now he seems like someone I would want to sit down and have a beer with. Definitely stealing that one next time my sister is telling me I can't complain! lol
My last analogy for this was, if I asked you if you wanted to be punched or kicked and you choose one, does that mean you have no right to complain when I do it. Thought it was a pretty apt analogy.

I actually do usually vote, but only for 1 reason and that is firearms ownership. I look up the MP's stance on gun ownership and the way they have voted in the past and vote for whoever is the lesser of the evils. A very sad state of affairs that I find that necessary... We should be empowered to vote for people we genuinely believe in rather than trying to pick someone who might not ruin our livelihood.... I sort of envy Americans in that regard. They mostly seem to have a genuine belief in their chosen political party. Don't get me wrong, their politicians are no different to ours, but at least they vote for someone they believe in, even if it is delusional belief most of the time.

Sadly, he is no longer with us.
But Doug Stanhope is and really is the kind of guy that would happily sit with you in a bar. He also has some interesting views on democracy.

I'm all for a dictatorship as long as I can be the dictator. Otherwise not so much, I'll take my chances with democracy.

If you're offered the choice between a s*** sandwich, a diarrhoea curry, and something dubious that seems a bit crap, there's no shame in declining all three.
We don't have any great statesmen or women of political conviction to represent us in Parliament these days. Of any flavour. We just have politicians with petty criminal convictions.
Question Time has been reduced to two weasels trying to out-clever personal remarks like a couple of gangsta rappers (without the talent) without nailing the main issues.
They're taking the p*** out of us.
